Transfer news: Aurelien Tchouaméni asks Monaco to accept Real Madrid offer

Kylian Mbappe’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain has made him the highest-paid athlete in the world according to Marca.

The Frenchman will now stay at the club until the summer of 2025, meaning that he will play the World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as a PSG player.

Last January, Forbes produced a list of the top-earning athletes in the world including earnings inside and outside of football.

January Forbes list of top earnings athletsles had Lionel Messi on top with €130m, LeBron James is second with €120m, Cristiano Ronaldo is third with €107m, Neymar Junior is fourth with €90m and Steph Curry is fifth with €89m.

The values behind his contract with the Paris club has not been made public.

Real were willing to pay €230m to sign the forward on Deadline Day last summer and were also ready to give Mbappe a signing-on fee of £110m and wages of £20m-a-year after tax. Their total investment would have been about £300m.

Mbappe was presented on the pitch ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 match at home to Metz – in which he scored a hat-trick – and said: “I would like to announce that I have chosen to extend my contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and of course I am delighted.

“I am convinced that here I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level. I am also delighted to continue to play in France, the country where I was born, where I have grown up and where I have made my name.”
