Barcelona’s board met with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly on Thursday evening to continue with the negotiations between the two clubs on the possible transfer of players, but the Blaugrana came away from the Via Veneto restaurant assuming a delay in the market plans.

Barcelona have long been linked with a move for Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso. But reports emerged earlier in that day that Frenkie de Jong could be a surprise target for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

With Mundo Deportivo, reporting that Barcelona have accepted that both of their Spanish defenders will depart the club and join Andreas Christensen in Barcelona.

This will be done pending on when the Blues discover a perfect replacement for both Alonso and Azpilicueta. But the duo are now set to go on Chelsea’s preseason tour to the USA.

This adds more frustrations to coach Xavi Hernandez who is yet to organize his team for an ever challenging season ahead.
