Barcelona continue to search for an opponent in this year’s Joan Gamper trophy preseason match after AS Roma and AC Milan rejected their invitations.
It’s a yearly event, the Catalans had scheduled the Joan Gamper trophy for the 6th of August, both men’s and women’s teams will play a friendly, with the squad for the new season being presented to the fans between the two.
AS Roma were initially invited to play Barcelona but pulled out of the match, reason been that it will affect their preparation for the new season.
Milan were also contacted as the next option in the media, but Sport say that the Rossoneri have also turned down the opportunity, picking up on a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
There were speculations that Paris Saint-Germain CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi adviced other clubs to snub friendlies with the teams involved in the Superleague, although there is no confirmation that is the case.
As time runs fast, Barcelona is now faced with the challenge of getting an opponent for their great preseason tournament.
