Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly considering an alternative to Jules Kounde as they move for Athletic Club centre-back Inigo Martinez, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The report went further to state that Mateu Alemany is in conversation with Jon Uriarte about the transfer.
Xavi Hernandez is said to be a huge fan of Martinez after playing against him on many occasions.
The spaniard’s experience in La Liga will help him fit in with Barcelona squad.
His release clause at San Mames is €80m but he has just a year left on his contract so would be available for a much lower fee.
The 31-year-old will indeed strengthen Barcelona’s defence.
Martinez began his career with Real Sociedad, was promoted into their first team in 2011, before signing for Athletic club in 2018.
He has played 158 games for Athletic, earning 19 Spanish caps.
