Liverpool we understand is in the transfer market again, as the club has targeted Darwin Nunez to be the new striker and are ready to smash their transfer record to sign him.
The striker who is also tracked by Atletico Madrid and Manchester United is now Liverpool’s top priority with a deal that could reach as much as £85million.
Liverpool’s new Sporting Director, Julian Ward has been holding talks with Benfica and it is understood that Nunez is keen to move to Merseyside.
The signing of Ward will be a great achievement for Liverpool given that Sadio Mane is now certain to leave this summer with Bayern Munich ready to replace Robert Lewandowski with the Senegalese forward.
Nunez scored six goals in the Champions League last season, two of which were against Liverpool in the quarter-finals and he made a significant impression on Jurgen Klopp. ‘A good looking boy! And a decent player as well.
‘Really good, really good. I knew before, of course, but he played pretty much in front of me with his tough battles with Ibrahima Konate.
‘He was physically strong, quick, was calm around his finish. Good, really good. I always say in these situations if he is healthy, it’s a big career ahead of him.’
