President of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse has called on PSG to sanction Idrissa Gueye for his refusal to wear a shirt with a rainbow flag in his side’s victory again Montpellier on Saturday. According to football news France.
He passed a Twitter message saying, “The player of a football club, and particularly those who play for PSG, are role models for our children. They have a duty to set an example. Idrissa Gueye’s refusal to associate himself with the fight against homophobia can not go without sanction!”
The message was tagged to PSG’s official Twitter account in the tweet. It is the second consecutive year that Gueye has missed the match dedicated to the LGBT+ rights campaign. His absence raised questions before RMC confirmed on Sunday that his opposition to the campaign was the reason for his absence from Saturday night’s match.
They also add that Gueye missed the equivalent commemorative match on the same weekend last year for what PSG said was gastroenteritis.
Pécresse is the President of the wider Paris region and also ran for Les Républicains during the 2022 French presidential elections.
Dailymail reported that Idrissa Gueye reportedly missed his side’s 4-0 win against Montpellier on Saturday because he didn’t want to play in a shirt that had his number in rainbow colours.
The Midfielder was absent from the match for what his manager Mauricio Pochettino said ‘were personal reasons, but he is not injured’.
