Watford could prevent Emmanuel Dennis from leaving for African Cup of Nations in January, with the Manager Claudio Ranieri claiming that Nigeria missed the deadline for call up for the tournament.
Dennis was named in Nigeria’s 28-man AFCON squad with the player posting on his Twitter account that he is proud to get a call up to represent his country.
However, Ranieri believes Watford have the right not to release him after Nigeria failed to submit a ” pre-call” before the deadline.
It is believed they feel there is an option to prevent the player from taking part in the continental tournament as they battle to escape relegation.

Dennis is supposed to meet the Nigerian squad after Watford’s Premier League clash with Tottenham on New Year’s Day, but that seems not happening.
Reports from Watford Observer has it that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has denied any wrongdoing and are still confident that Dennis will be involved next month.
According to the NFF, clubs will be notified five days before individual matches and 10 days in advance for a tournament, and they are to send a “pre-call” on December 30.
AFCON starts on January 9 and Nigeria’s first match against Egypt comes two days later.
