It’s always hard to celebrate when it comes wrapped in a draw that looks like a defeat.
For that reason, Tottenham left the pitch fuming after three goals were disallowed in their away game to Southampton.
This is Conte’s seventh league unbeaten game for Tottenham. No manager in the club’s history has played beyond six games without a loss.
Stubborn Southampton took the lead through James Ward-Prowse and played well untill Mohammed Salisu was sent off in the first half. They then fought magnificently to protect what remained after Harry Kane netted in an equalizer from a penalty awarded in the wake of Salisu’s dismissal.
If there is mitigation it might come from the sense of injustice, Tottenham had three goals disallowed. One was clearly offside from Ben Davies, and the other controversial two at 1-1.
‘For me there’s a big disappointment we don’t win,’ he said. ‘We are to work a lot because it won’t be easy to fight for something this season. We needed to improve a lot.
‘I need to be disappointed because it was a big opportunity to win. I think that to play after 44 hours is not easy for every team. I think that I have seen a bit of fatigue in my players.’
Kane’s performance in the game shows the player is gradually coming to form.
