Henk Frazer and Maduka Okoye (Football alive)

The Nigerian international is expected to be around when the African Cup of Nations kicks off, from the look of things, he may not get to the end of the tournament should Nigeria go far.

Sparta Rotterdam Coach Henk Frazer  has asked Maduka Okoye to make an early return from the African Cup of Nations.

he 22-year old short-stopper is one of the key players at Sparta Rotterdam.

The club have only won two of their last thirteen Eredivisie games, and currently very close to relegation.

As a result of this, the Coach wants the short-stopper to return to Netherlands, even if it means leaving the tournament halfway.

“I understand that the final of the African Cup Nations and the Rotterdam derby will be the same date”, Frazer said.

“I think he will go there, but he owes it to sparta. So I think he’s nice after the first, maybe should come home in the second round.”

The AFCON tournament kicks off January 9th and ends February 6th. This means that if Nigeria gets to the final, Okoye would miss his Club’s first three fixtures after the break.
