The Former Nigerian international Augustine Eguavon was appointed the head coach of Super Eagles on interim basis last week, but he faces a decisive few days ahead.
The President of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick, assured Nigerians that the nations’ governing body will unveil a new technical adviser that will lead the team to Cameroon next week.
Pinnick in a press conference confirmed that that NFF has interviewed three Europeans for the job.The last European to manage the Super Eagle Gernot Rohr spent only five years and. got his contract terminated December 12.
Pinnick assured Nigerians after Rohr’s sack that the NFF will bring a coach ready for the challenge and to command the players respect.
The association president revealed that they contacted former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho.
Pinnick then stated that Eguavon could still lead the Super Eagles to Cameroon next month.
And that he could retain the job permanently if he leads the Eagles to win the trophy.”We know that Eguavon can do the job expertly, but we also know that he will be more useful controlling the technical department.
However, if we cannot get the new coach to start work immediately, we will empower them to take the team to Cameroon.
“And if Eguavon wins the Nations Cup, we might have a rethink. In that case, the foreign coach will become the technical director, while Eguavon takes the position of technical adviser.
Nigeria is in the same group with Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.
