Vitesse Arnhem’s UEFA Europa Conference League match against NS Mura will go ahead as planned despite a late appeal from the Dutch side to have the game postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak at Tottenham Hotspur.

Vitesse Arnhem are level on points with Tottenham in Europa Conference League Group G, with seven points from their first five matches. They had been scheduled to host Mura on Thursday at the same time as Tottenham’s match against Rennes.

But the Dutch side said in a statement they have asked UEFA to postpone their home match because they were concerned about the fairness of the matches taking place separately.

UEFA received Vittese’s appeal on Thursday night, although The Athletic understands the request was made too late for the game to be called off.

Rennes have already reached the last 16 as Group G winners on 11 points after five matches. Spurs are above Vitesse on goal difference, with Slovenian side Mura out of contention.

“Vitesse has not (yet) received an official message from UEFA about the consequences of the cancellation in London for Vitesse vs NS Mura,” Vitesse said.

“If Tottenham Hotspur vs Stade Rennais FC is moved to a later date that will be a significant disadvantage for Vitesse from a sporting point of view because both teams are highly dependent on each other’s result.

“Vitesse has also asked UEFA a number of questions and indicated that it is prepared to explore concrete solutions with the aim of creating an equal and fair playing field for all teams in the group.”

Spurs said on Wednesday their Europa Conference League match against Rennes had been called off after manager Antonio Conte confirmed that there had been 13 positive cases at the club — eight players and five members of staff.
