The richest club in world football is Newcastle United, yet they are looking at a very real situation that they won’t be able to truly strengthen their squad in January, with the club now turning their focus to low-cost signings.

Upon the arrival of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, many expected the Magpies to immediately start targeting elite players, offering them vast salaries which would tempt them away from their current clubs.

Jesse LingardToni KroosDonny van de Beek and Kieran Trippier had all been linked, but the club’s relegation battle has scared those names off.

Eddie Howe‘s arrival as Newcastle boss has changed the club’s transfer policy somewhat, and the team needs to recruit the right kind of characters to steer clear of relegation, given their lowly return of 10 points from 15 matches.
