Liverpool reportedly lead the transfer race for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
That’s according to the Mirror, which claims that Jürgen Klopp has not been put off by a likely asking price of £90m. This would be a club record signing for Liverpool — but if anyone can justify such a spend, it is the generational 18-year-old talent.
Strangely, the report also suggests that the obsession of other Premier League clubs with Erling Haaland could hand Liverpool the transfer advantage when it comes to Bellingham. If this is even remotely true, it does not say much for the transfer strategies of other clubs, which are surely capable of supporting interest in more than one player at any given time.
However, putting the Haaland element to one side, the claim that Liverpool have not baulked at the price tag is cause for cautious optimism. Bellingham, by all accounts, would be open to the move: he has a good relationship with Henderson from international duty, and has frequently cited Steven Gerrard as an idol.
