Paris Saint-Germain are understood to have met with Zinedine Zidane in a bid to make the 49-year-old their new coach.

The two parties are said to have met at the Royal Monceau hotel – one of Paris’ most luxurious – to discuss the prospect.

As Le Parisien report, at that meeting from PSG‘s side were sporting director Leonardo and Jean-Claude Blanc, the club’s general manager and a good friend of Zidane‘s.

The idea that’s been mooted is that Zidane – unwilling to break his sabbatical – would take the reins at the Parc des Princes next summer.

All of which leaves the future of current PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino up in the air.

The Argentinian is already on shaky ground after his side’s poor performances in the Champions League this term – there was another of those at Manchester City on Wednesday night – and rumours abound that he may ditch Paris for Manchester United.

The ex-Spurs coach was elusive when asked after that defeat to City whether he would be in the dugout for the Champions League knockouts.

“The players know very well our situation,” said Pochettino.

“I think we are living in a business in which rumours are there, sometimes negative, sometimes positive, sometimes positive, sometimes negative.

“That is what we say about the rumours.”

Zidane had seemed to be waiting to become the next France coach, with Didier Deschamps looking set to depart after the World Cup in Qatar next year.

But these latest developments would suggest he has changed his mind.

Zidane‘s calm demeanour – and experience of being a Galactico himself – means that he knows how to get the best out of a highly-paid, highly-strung group, as he proved over two spells at Real Madrid.
