Dani Alves’ return has got everyone talking, as the Barcelona legend has gone back to the Catalan club at the age of 38. The only person who won’t be overly thrilled about the Brazilian’s return is Sergino Dest, who will find himself with some serious competition for the right-back berth from January onwards.

There have already been doubts over whether Dest deserves a starting place at the Camp Nou, so it will be interesting to see whether Xavi Hernandez gives him an opportunity or opts for his ex-teammate Alves.

Alves does trump the USA international in terms of experience, but the most decorated club player in history is no spring chicken. It’s hard to see him playing week in week out this season.

Sergi Roberto is another player who will be vying for the right-back position and who also played with Xavi previously.

The three may have to settle for rotation in that position, or they could be moved into other areas of the pitch. It all depends on what plan Xavi has in mind
