With his brace against Shakhtar Donetsk, Karim Benzema reached 100 Real Madrid goals since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The major worry for Los Blancos after the sale of Ronaldo to Juventus back in 2018 was whether anyone in the current squad could compensate for the Portuguese superstar’s remarkable goal return year after year.
While that task was always going to be impossible, Benzema has certainly taken on a talismanic role for the side.
Benzema scored 30 goals in 2018/19, 27 in 2019/20, another 30 in 2019/20 and is currently on 13 in the current campaign, bringing him up a century of strikes in the post-Ronaldo era.
The Portuguese forward, on his part, scored his 100th goal with Juventus on May 12 against Sassuolo, in the penultimate match of the Serie A season.
In addition to Ronaldo, since 2018/19, only Leo Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe managed to reach 100 goals before Benzema.
